What It Is
Bakugan is a collectible game that is one of the hottest things on the market right now. The core items of the line are the Battle Brawlers, spheres with built-in magnets that automatically transform into Bakugan warriors when rolled across metal Gate Cards (collectible trading cards). Each Bakugan character contains different powers and abilities, and the gameplay marries marbles, transforming toys and collectible card games into a unique collecting and playing experience.
Why It’s Fun
The gist of collectible trading card games is that each card represents an imaginary creature of some sort with varying powers, skills, levels and abilities. Kids duel one another by selecting cards (creatures) from their decks and going head-to-head against each other hoping that the card they play will best the stats of their opponents’. Bakugan has found a way to take the imaginary 2D card duel and add a 3D element in the form of the Brawlers so that kids can not only choose a card of stats but play with the actual creatures those cards represent.
The Battle Brawlers come in several sizes ranging from small, pocketsize to the deluxe baseball sized items. All the Brawlers transform from ball shapes into creatures when they encounter one of the magnetic cards.
Who’s Going To Love It
Thanks in part to the Bakugan series on Cartoon Network, the toys have a huge following among boys ages 6 through 12 as well as teens who have taken part in the Bakugan Battle events produced by SpinMaster around the country.
What To Be Aware Of
In addition to the Brawlers, Bakugan has a whole line of toys including a game arena and holders/cases for the Brawlers. Other items in the line include large poseable figures and accessories.
