What It Is

Spyro, The Eternal Night is the second installment of a trilogy of Spyro games, which began with last year’s A New Beginning. Just to refresh your memory, A
New Beginning
ended with Spyro defeating Cynder and discovering that she was actually just another dragon, who had fallen under the control of the Dark Master. Eternal Night picks up at this point and Spyro must embark on a new
treacherous, combat-driven quest.

Why It’s Fun

Sierra has truly managed to breath new life into the Spyro franchise, which was beginning to get a little stale at Vivendi/Universal. A New Beginning had to distinguish the series from the previous games and did so by placing the game’s emphasis on combat rather than the familiar Spyro mechanics of running around collecting items.  The Eternal Night is still combat-driven but has added collecting and puzzle solving to the quest.

With that said, the fighting in The Eternal Night is awesome! Throughout the
game, you will add to Spyro’s arsenal of elemental attacks, which are four different element-based attacks that will be familiar to fans of the series. Each of the four attacks can be upgraded and with each upgrade, you get a new set of visually impressive battle moves.

Who’s Going To Love It

The trilogy has definitely aged the franchise up a bit and will appeal more to older gamers as compared to the earlier games, which were always kid-favs.

What To Be Aware Of

The new Spyro games are much more challenging than the earlier titles.
Although aspects of the earlier games have been added to The Eternal Night, there is still far more fighting involved than in the previous games.
