Game Boy Advance Game System

What It Is

Just when you thought you had captured them all, Nintendo releases a whole new Pokémon adventure in two versions, Ruby and Sapphire, for the Game Boy Advance game system. Both games mark the debut of Pokémon on the Game Boy Advance and continue the “pocket-monster” saga.

The game starts when you choose to play as either a boy or girl. You then enter your name, after which you learn your family has moved to Littleroot Town where your adventure begins by acquiring your first Pokémon, Pokédex and Poké Balls. All of this can be accomplished by getting to know your neighbors and traveling around the area. Here’s a little hint: Pokémon can often be found in tall grass.

Why It’s Fun

Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire have over 100 new Pokémon creatures waiting to be discovered, with new names, moves and abilities. Also, for the first time, you can battle two Pokémon creatures at the same time with the 2-on-2 battle screen. There are some other great features that come into play when you link one Game Boy Advance to others (up to 4 systems can be linked together) using the Game Boy Advance Game Link Cables. This enables players to trade and battle their Pokémon creatures with each other and with the 2-on-2 battle option, four players can hit the battlefield at the same time.

Who’s Going To Love It

This isn’t your older sibling’s Pokémon; it’s a new game for a new generation of Pokémon fans and, yes, they are still out there. Ruby and Sapphire sold more than 4 million copies combined within the first six weeks of their release in Japan.

What To Be Aware Of

Both Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire versions, the Game Boy Advance and Game Link Cables are all sold separately. In order to link one system to another, you will need a Game Boy Advance and either Pokémon Ruby or Pokémon Sapphire for each player. Older Pokémon versions will not work with the link system.
