What It Is

In a very short time, Guitar Hero has become one of the most successful game franchises on the market. It has created a new genre in gaming and spawned many imitators eager to jump on the bandwagon. Players grab a guitar and hit the road for a series of rock performances of some of the rock world’s most popular hits. Using the guitar controller, the player must hit the appropriate note at just the right moment to produce the correct sound and in turn progress through the game. With each successful performance, new and more challenging venues (levels) and songs are opened up until you reach the final stage.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is the first game built around the popular music of the band Aerosmith. The game takes the player through Aerosmith’s career starting with a performance at their first gig.

Why It’s Fun

There are two reasons for why this game is so much fun. First it’s the revolutionary way the player controls the game. Instead of the typical thumb-based controller, Guitar Hero relies on a guitar controller complete with chord buttons on the neck and a whammy bar on the body. Because of the controller, sitting down to play can actually hinder your game so you need to get up and rock out. This is an ideal party game where those sitting by and watching are having just as much fun as the person in control.

Second, people love this game is the music. Songs are chosen to appeal to a wide audience and players frequently find themselves saying “I forgot how much I love this song”! The Aerosmith edition of the game contains the bands greatest hits along with chart toppers from other artists who the band has either performed with or been inspired by.

Who’s Going To Love It

A significant reason for Guitar Hero’s massive success is it’s broad appeal to all ages and both sexes, which is very rare for a video game. When it comes to the younger kids, we notice that more boys than girls enjoy Guitar Hero, however, for teens and above, woman are just as into the game as men.  With this broad appeal, Guitar Hero has become one of those games that parents enjoy playing with their kids.

What To Be Aware Of

Guitar Hero is sold as a stand-alone game and in a game plus guitar controller bundle package. You need the guitar controller to play all Guitar Hero games so if this is the first time you are purchasing any of the games, make sure to buy the controller bundle. If you already own the guitar controller from a previous Guitar Hero game, that controller will work with the Aerosmith game.
