What It Is
Backyard Baseball, from Atari and Humongous Games, is one of our favorite kid's game franchises and the best-selling youth baseball video game to date.
Each edition of the game features animated kid versions of top MLB pros and Backyard Baseball '09 has expanded the roster to include at least one ballplayer from each of the 30 Major League ball clubs, including the game’s cover
athlete David “Big Papi” Ortiz, Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Ichiro and Ken Griffey Jr.
Kids can choose to play single pick-up games, the full season play or the Home Run Derby mini-game.
Why It’s Fun
Young gamers love playing their favorite baseball heroes but teen and adult targeted games are often too complicated for the kids to play. Backyard Baseball takes the elements of those “grown-up” games, such as controllable elements of pitching, batting, fielding, and running, and combines them with kid friendly and approved elements including arcade-style action and crazy power ups.
Who’s Going To Love It
Backyard Baseball ’09 is designed for kids as young as four to easily pick and play. There is also a feature that allows
the players to adjust the difficulty levels between the two teams, which makes it a great game for kids to play with adults and also allows the game to grow with the child’s skill level.
What To Be Aware Of
Backyard Baseball 2009 features a kid-friendly, non-violent format so parents can be assured that their kids will not be exposed to any objectionable material.
The Nintendo DS version of the game includes a wireless multi-player mode and touch screen controls to let players hit, field, pitch, and run-all with strokes and taps of the stylus.
